I said YES to the Internship

For five years now it has been my dream to move to New York City for an internship in the fashion industry. I am beyond thrilled to announce that I have made that dream a reality. This past October, I was in Manhattan for my birthday. Before I went, I decided I was going to make it a trip for strictly business.. (with a little bit of fun too). I contacted about 10 companies that were offering internships during summer 2018, and several of them immediately responded and planned interviews. This was the first step in landing an internship of my dreams. Once I got to New York, I had 4 interviews set up. Saying I was anxious is quite the understatement. However, my sister and her husband helped me prepare by asking mock interview questions, and giving me helpful tips on how to impress your interviewer. The morning of my first two interviews literally felt like a dream. When I woke up and realized I had two interviews in Manhattan, New York for an internship in the fashion industry, I was a bundle of mixed emotions; excited, nervous, grateful, skittish, anxious. I got dressed, threw my heels in my bag, and set out to achieve one of my biggest goals.

The first interview I had I was offered the position on the spot. I was speechless. I had landed an internship in Manhattan. I walked out of that high rise on 5th Avenue feeling like I could do anything. However, I didn’t accept it because I had three more interviews lined up, and I wanted to see what my options were. My second meeting was at a trend forecasting company. When I walked into the office I felt like I was in a movie. The office was beautifully decorated, people hustling and bustling around, the office overlooked the city, and not to mention everyone looked effortlessly fabulous. I sat down with one of the companies forecasters, and later on the founder joined the meeting. It was such a humbling experience. I was able to learn how the company started and became the empire it is today. I was also offered that internship on the spot. I had never felt so proud in my entire life. After I was offered a second internship in one day, I began to feel like all of my hard work was finally starting to pay off.

I had two other interviews later that week, however the one that I was most looking forward to was with Kleinfeld Bridal. If you have ever watched the reality series Say Yes to The Dress on TLC, you know exactly why I was so thrilled. The interview was on my birthday so I was especially nervous. I didn’t want a poor interview to put a damper on my 21st. Nevertheless, I went in with confidence and poise, and promised myself that I would do my best to present why I was the perfect candidate for the internship. As I nervously sat in Kleinfeld's waiting area, I realized that simply being in this situation was something to be proud of, regardless of the outcome. "Emma Smith, Mrs. Roberts is ready for you." I stood up and thought, "This is it."

The interview went wonderfully. I was officially offered an internship position at Kleinfeld one week later, and I immediately accepted. So with that being said, I will be moving to New York City at the end of May, and will be there until mid August! I am so excited to work for such an inspiring and amazing company, and to see where this opportunity leads me. I want to thank all of the people in my life who pushed me to go for what I love, and to never settle for anything less. Thank you to my sisters who taught me that nothing is impossible, and to my parents who instilled in me that hard work and dedication will take you farther than you can imagine!
